Monday, October 2

Good afternoon! In preparation for a lesson on Monday, I am in need to twist ties. My family doesn't have a supply of those, but I'm hoping that one or two of you happen to keep these around the house. :-) If you do and you'd be willing, would you send a handful or two into school on Monday? We could use them for our math lesson to create shapes. Thanks in advance! Have a good weekend!

Chain Reactions

Good evening! I just wanted to let you know that if your child said anything about bringing Legos, marbles, balls, or dominoes to school, then it's my fault. In science, we're busy studying energy, and we started observing and discussing the transfer of energy through collisions (including chain reactions). Tomorrow students will build a chain reaction and they were to use an item from home to help create one with their team. All items will be returned tomorrow. Also, we do have our spelling test tomorrow. I reminded students of it today. They will receive a new spelling list tomorrow night. Have a great night!

Field Trip Tomorrow!

Good evening! Just wanted to post a reminder that we have our field trip tomorrow. Your child will need a lunch to bring with them. Additionally, they may want to bring an umbrella or coat as there is some rain in the forecast. I'm hoping it will miss us, but it's better to be prepared than wet! We are chugging along in class! We are about at the midway point in our first chapter in math. We are doing pretty well with place value but have some extra work to do on rounding. We will look at addition, subtraction, and perimeter next week. In reading, we are in the middle of Unit 1 Week 2. We are studying realistic fiction and how to identify characters, setting, and plot while reading this type of text. Our next spelling test will take place next Wednesday. In science, we continue to investigate energy. We played with marbles today to observe what happens when we make them collide. We observed and discussed the transfer of energy between the two marbles. Hope you're

Prepping for Week 3

Hello all! I apologize for being so silent on the blog. The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of lessons, materials, emotions, and people. I think I'm finally settling in a bit, and I hope the kids are, too. I hope they're enjoying the school year so far because I certainly enjoy having each of them in class! This is probably the nicest class I have taught in my 10 years! I just wanted to give you a quick update on some things. First, we will have our first spelling list and test this week. I will send the list home tomorrow. I am grouping students based on a spelling screener I gave them the first week of school, so your student will receive a list of words at their current spelling level. That list will be adjusted as necessary to address your child's needs. Second, we have our first field trip coming up on September 21st to the Buckley Old Engine Show. Look for a permission slip this week. It will cost your child nothing to attend, but they will need to bring a
