Prepping for Week 3

Hello all!

I apologize for being so silent on the blog. The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of lessons, materials, emotions, and people. I think I'm finally settling in a bit, and I hope the kids are, too. I hope they're enjoying the school year so far because I certainly enjoy having each of them in class! This is probably the nicest class I have taught in my 10 years!

I just wanted to give you a quick update on some things. First, we will have our first spelling list and test this week. I will send the list home tomorrow. I am grouping students based on a spelling screener I gave them the first week of school, so your student will receive a list of words at their current spelling level. That list will be adjusted as necessary to address your child's needs.

Second, we have our first field trip coming up on September 21st to the Buckley Old Engine Show. Look for a permission slip this week. It will cost your child nothing to attend, but they will need to bring a sack lunch.

Third, I have started posting grades in PowerSchool. Have a look if you get a chance, and if you don't have a parent login for PowerSchool, then please contact the office. They will put you into contact with the correct people for signing you up for that service.

Finally, I sent home our first piece of homework last week. It was HomeLink 1-1, and I had most students return it the next day. Please check their Take-Home folders for important papers and homework. I will do my best to remind them to take their folders home, even if they're empty. :-) If you ever need any help with the math homework, please feel free to contact me through email. I check it multiple times a night and would be happy to offer assistance.

Please remember that I am giving students points just for trying the homework and turning it in. I will not dock points for incorrect answers (unless it's quite obvious they just wrote some things down). Students will be given 3 points for every assignment.

I hope you all had a relaxing weekend. Here's to week three!

Mr. Wissner
